Top 10: Stephen King Films

Oct 26, 2009 | 4 Comments | @andrewmarcec

When horror is brought to mind, it is the tales of Stephen King that many claim are their favorites.  I am no exception to this.  Stephen has created tales that chilled me to the bone as a child, and now that I’m older, create the most wonderful sense of nostalgia as I watch them.  I tried to keep this list specifically to the films that have been adapted to his work, not the mini-series.  What do you think?  Have I hit the nail on the head here, or is my taste in King films a laugh?  Click on each picture for the trailer!

It’s not horror, but my favorite Stephen King film would have to be The Shawshank Redemption.

I would like to wag my finger at you in disagreement. I submit to you MY top 10 Stephen King films in kind of but not really an order:

    10. The Rage: Carrie 2- Fuck those who like the original. I went on one of those “Middle school quasi-dates” to this movie so I liked it. And it had the oldest kid from Home Improvement get killed with a harpoon of all things.

    9. Secret Window- Shut up, Johnny Depp is good looking.

    8. The Green Mile- not my favorite but the guy getting fried with the dry sponge bit was pretty cool.

    7. Creepshow- My dad was all into this and had me watch it. I dug it.

    6. Stand By Me- Oh yes, your master of horror wrote the film that skyrocketted Jerry O’Connell to chubby kid fame! “You kids wanna see a dead body?”

    5. Pet Cemetery- Scared the absolute shit out of me. And I think Pet Cemetery 2 (which he may not have been a part of) was the one with the dad chasing people with a power drill and drilling into them whenever he could. Creepy.

    4. IT- Just found out literally last year this was Tim Curry as the clown. Weird cause I love Tim Curry. This movie fucked up my childhood. Seriously. I am still scared of gutters and going to the bathroom by myself.

    3. Children of the Corn- Creepy redneck kids…and corn.

    2. Shining- Yea, its a pretty good movie…I gueeeess. :)

    1. The Running Man- Schwarzenegger. In yellow spandex. And Dynamo? Buzzsaw??? CAPTAIN FREEDOM???? I win. Best. Stephen. King. Film. EVER.

I approve this list however I do have a few objections to it…

Secret Window????? Oh man, you MUST have the hots for the Depp man if you added this to your top 10.

Carrie 2…if it was Carrie 2: Electric Boogaloo I would totally be on board with this film, but it isn’t, so I’m not.

Otherwise awesome choices, I stuck to more of the horror angle with this top 10, but damn you just blew me out of the water!
