The Road

The trailer for “The Road” was released on Friday, and I have to say it looks like it is going to be a phenomenal film.  If you are unfamiliar with this film it is based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy, author of “No Country For Old Men”.  If you saw the amazing job the Cohen brothers did with that film, then you are hopefully jumping in your seat right now.

It is based around a small family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic scenario caused by an unexplained cataclysm.  No plants grow, civilization has been destroyed, and most species of life are now extinct.  All that is left are small bands of cannibalistic humans.  Now, this is not a new idea for a film.  For starters this trailer has the look and feel of “28 Days Later”, that’s a good thing to me since I love that movie.  I think that this film will really get people’s attention because it isn’t anything out of this world, it’s based on Earth, nothing to crazy or sci-fi about it to turn skeptical and realist people away.  All demographics covered.

Plus, look at the cast!  Robert Duvall, Charleze Theron, Viggo Mortenson, and Guy Pearce.  It is directed by John Hillcoat who directed the phenomenal film “The Proposition”.

This may seem like a silly reason to really want to get ramped up for this film, but the release date has been pushed back twice by the studios claiming that the film is too depressing.  I am starting the book this week, and will post a review when I finish.  The films current release date is October 16th 2009.  Check out the trailer below.
