The Gate 3-D update

Quite possibly one of my all time favorite camp films from the 80′s has to be “The Gate”.  This bit of genius took in all the fears of childhood, local urban legends, mystical artifacts found in your backyard, backwards messages in heavy metal records, and of course…demons.

Now this film is next in the queue for a reboot, and as I’m normally one to protest and any all reboots, remakes, retellings, whatever you wanna call them, I’m finding myself pretty excited for this one, especially after hearing the latest reveal.

H.R. Giger, the man who designed the aliens in Alien has been signed on to design the monsters for the reboot.  However, don’t expect these monsters to be anywhere as sinister as the Alien, this film’s aim is a little more on the light hearted side.

I just hope they keep the carpenter!

Here is a quick snippet from the outline:

“They have opened a gate STRAIGHT TO HELL! Moths are the least of the problems—they’ve got MINIONS, who herald the arrival of the DEMON LORD himself, and these guys like to party!

That night the basement is swarming with the little frog-like beasts. They are kind of cute—in an ugly way—but mix these creatures with beer and it’s a dangerous combination. Pretty soon they are attacking with razor-sharp teeth and claws.”

And here are some storyboard snippets:
