Role Models

When I first saw trailers for “Role Models” I thought to myself, “Eh, looks kinda dumb, even for Paul Rudd.”  How wrong I was.  I was up in Michigan visiting my buddy and Lingo co-host Doug over the weekend and we watched this film.  I can’t remember the last time I had laughed so hard.

Danny (Paul Rudd) and Wheeler (Seann William Scott) are two salesmen for Minotaur energy drink who travel from school to school giving “stay off drug” speaches.  Danny isn’t the happiest of guys, and after one bad day and a couple of bad decisions, Danny and Wheeler are sentenced to 150 hours of community service for the offenses that they made, or they will be sent to prison for 30 days.

They are sent to volunteer at Sturdy Wings, a big brother-esque charity where they will become “bigs” to some unfortunate “littles”.  Danny is paired up with Augie Farks (Christopher Mintz-Plasse (McLovin)), an incredibly geeky kid who is out of touch with reality.  His main passion…live action role-playing (LARPing for acronym junkies).  Wheeler is paired up with Ronnie Sheilds (Bobb’e J. Thompson), an annoying smartass who is obsessed with boobies.

Hilarity ensues.

I highly, highly recommend this film to everyone who is looking for a good laugh.  From Wheeler explaining to Ronnie what KISS meant when they sang “Love Gun” to the giant LARP battle at the end of the film, this film not only kept me laughing, but also had a good story with it as well.

Possible side effects to watching this film:

  • Feeling the need to join a LARPing community
  • Restarting up your WoW account
  • Joining a Big Brother/Big Sister organization
  • Eating Cheetos

The last one is just something that is awesome that everyone should do while watching comedy movies.
