Weezer: The Blue Album

As I walked to my train today I noticed myself muttering the words to “Surf Wax America”, something I hadn’t done since sixth grade, and I was loving every second of it. I even remembered all the words! I was kind of hoping the louder that I sang people would join in, and we would have a full on impromptu musical on our hands. Sadly people just looked at me like I was one step away from holding a sign up on the street corner.
Who would have though an album, released by some pretty dorky looking guys, would still be a favorite among all people over ten years later? How dorky were they you ask? They managed to incoroprate superheroes, Dungeons and Dragons, Kiss, and Happy Days all in one glorious ten song album! Who wasn’t obsessed with their video for Buddy Holly when they first got their Windows 95 Packard Bell computer? I didn’t know what I was more excited for, that video, or my newly 28.8bps modem.
This album transcends all fads and crossovers of the music world due to a fantastic mixture of harder rock songs (My Name Is Jonas), to Surf Rock (Surf Wax America), all the way down to the slow and meaningful (Only In Dreams). This album offers something for everyone to love and sing along to, and though Weezer has always offered excellent music on all of their albums, I think this one will be the most highly praised. If you don’t have this album all I have to ask is, why the hell not?
And remember, if you take your car to work…I’ll take my board and when you’re out of fuel, I’m still afloat.
