Watcher In The Woods

Let me just go on record saying that I like Disney, I always have and always will. This movie however, jumped out at me from left field and really took me off guard. If I had seen it when I was a kid, I would have needed a change of pants with every scene.

It takes place in England, 30 years after a young girl disappears from a chapel on the night of a solar eclipse. The Curtis family moves into a very large mansion owned by Mrs. Aylwood, mother of the girl who disappeared. She notices that the oldest Curtis girl, Jan, looks just like her daughter and lets the family rent the manor.
This is where things start to get crazy, Jan starts seeing apparitions in the woods, and also images of a blindfolded girl silently screaming for help in mirrors.

Jan’s younger sister Ellie has also been having conversations with “The Watcher”. This “watcher” is at first thought to be the young girl that disappeared so long ago. Jan realizes this and decides to help the “watcher” by staging a sceance in the old chapel where the girl disappeared.
This movie is incredibly creepy, especially for a Disney film. I want more! Look back on some of those movies we watched as children…they are messed up! Disney hit the jackpot with this film in my eyes. The story was never boring, and I actually found myself enjoying the thrill of the mystery. Something I hadn’t done with a Disney film in ages.
Kids are too coddled now, there is too much “political correctness” in the world. People are actually starting to refuse to read their children fairy tales because they are deemed “too frightening”. I find this an incredibly sad reality. Look at the imagination and adventure that these stories instill in us! Look at every episode of “Are You Afriad Of The Dark”, which did a spin off of this film called “Watcher’s Woods”, all the heros in that show were children. Stories like these are crucial to development in my opinion.
Find more movies like this and bring them to the attention of everyone, children or adults. I think with the way that the world is right now, we could all use some more imagination and sense of adventure.

You know a Disney film is badass when you have to post this before the film.
