“Lost”, is an indipendant comic written by Derek Glascock and illustrated by Jaysin Osterkamp. It is a series comprised of four books and was published in trade paperback form in 2009.
Chaz is suck in a rut. He hates his 9-5 job as a telemarketer, hasn’t written anything in months, and to top it off he’s alone. At least he knows that he has his friends Rog and Peter to lend a sympathetic ear and an incredibly embarrassing insult that adds insult to injury. One day, while at the Pizza Pit, Rog and Peter are actually helpful, and they give him the courage to ask out the waitress that is constantly sending him signals. To Chaz’s surprise, things start to work out with her, until he starts noticing some of her weird habits and mannerisms. Now Chaz is asking himself if he’s happy…but it shouldn’t take him this long to answer.

Originally planned as a film, “Lost” ended up on a shelf for several years until Jaysin, the book’s illustrator was in a car crash and picked the script up again. He was inspired to make the film into a comic, a medium he could control, and make it solely for his friends to laugh. He was successful in every single way.
This books, though only a series of four comics, is phenomenal. The writing is sharp witted and funny, and the characters are so well developed that you’re left with a lingering feeling that you have been hanging out with these guys for ages. There are all the stereotypicals that every group of friends has, the oversexed man whore, the introverted masturbator, and the johnny everyman. The reader can find inklings of themselves in all those characters, or at least traits that they wished the possessed.
This is a romantic comedy, do not be fooled. Men are usually a little too stubborn to admit that they have romantic feelings, but this book makes it known, and it touches on all those misunderstandings and small bickerings that every guy has had with his girlfriend. From taking to long to shop, or just the weird fights about nothing, this book adds humor to every situation and leaves the reader thinking the same thing, “they hit the nail on the head”.

This book is recommended to all, however be forewarned, if you are gun shy of filthy language and Kevin Smith type of humor, you might walk away a tad offended….either way, you will be laughing your ass off.
